Chapter Eleven - The Beast
Getting out of the house and doing a little cleaning was exactly what I needed to do after talking with Bethany and hearing that she had feelings for Lennox and Caleb. Of fucking course I felt jealous as hell. Of fucking course I wanted to go straight to Lennox and Caleb and hurt them in unimaginable ways.
But I didnât. They were my men, loyal to me for years, and until Bethany, I never had any reason to suspect theyâd go against my orders.
I needed fresh air, and this was the perfect way to get it. Kill two birds with one stone and all that. Lennox and Caleb had already gone to get everything ready for me, and I was not too far behind them. Leaving Bethany alone at the house wasnât something I enjoyed doing, even though she had the collar on her, but you never knew. The girl might be more resourceful than I thought.
We all knew how stupidly brave she was, willing to march into danger to save her dear daddy. How annoyingly sick.
I drove in silence into the city. I wore all black, my glove already on. The added weight of the metal-tipped claws was a part of me now, something I was used to more often than not. When I didnât have it on, I felt naked, almost.
Thoughts of Bethany popped in my head as I drove through the more⦠abandoned parts of the city. Downtown was rife with businesses and people, even at such a late hour. Night had fallen hours ago, the moon high in the sky, and the air had cooled considerably. This city was like a two-sided coin. On one side, you had the bright and the shiny and the new, and on the other you had the abandoned, the dirty, and the forgotten.
I thought of everything Bethany had said, thought of how it had felt to mark her body and claim her in front of the others. I did not know if I could let them have her, if I could stand the thought of her being with them while she was with me. I admired her spunk, her gumption to come to me and confess her feelings for them, but that did not change the possessiveness I felt.
I didnât know. I really didnât know. I might respect Lennox and Caleb, but sharing the one girl that took up every waking thought in my head? That was something else, something I didnât know if I was capable of.
Itâs also why Iâd taken my time in leaving the house, why Iâd sent them out before me. I already had a crew thereâI had someone watching the docks all day, every dayâbut Lennox and Caleb knew exactly how I wanted him.
A thief had been found snooping around the docks, the warehouse I used to store some of my more⦠exclusive stock. I planned on getting to the root of it, seeing if he was sent by someone to snoop or possibly steal from me, and then he would die.
